Friday 1 April 2011 - comparisons

Asking me which is my favorite fruit is asking a loving mother to tell you which of her children she loves most!

Now if she's a sneaky mum she's going to try go with the whole, "I love them all equally", which is a bit how I feel towards fruit, it's a mass love thing! But of course that's also not 100% true, like it or not we always have favorites no matter how hard we try not to hurt the non-favorites feelings.

So the mother might then say, "I love each of them for their own special reasons", which you must admit is pretty crafty. True though, you can love watermelon for it's sweetness, kiwis for their tartness, bananas for their... man I'm hungry....

*And it was at this point that the loving mother turned around and did swallow her kids down whole while laughing and sticky and thinking, perhaps I could have used a better Metaphor...*

Thursday 31 March 2011 - happy to say so

Isn't it funny how we all expect to be happy and for things to go smoothly and calmly and ideally to a nice, foot-tapping, hawaiian tune? But should something horrible or sad or unexplained happen to rock our kayak and suddenly life is unfair, cruel and unkind?

We so see happiness as our right that we forget that sadness is just as valid an emotion and just as much allowed to exist and influence us.
All emotions, good, bad or otherwise are still valid emotions.
(Even if some have to be controlled by pills and restraints...)

People are allowed to be sad, feel sorry for themselves or write ghastly poetry about their deep seated feelings towards Uncle Lennie.

So my thought here is that we should appreciate when we have happiness and treasure it, knowing that it can be fleeting and that life could toss pretty much anything at us at any time. Living in the now and appreciating our happiness NOW, that's pretty much all we can do!
Besides a little gratitude never hurt anyone. (At least not like say, a chainsaw...)

So what do you have to be grateful for today?

Wednesday 30 March 2011 - nachtmusik

Hooray! I am borrowing an MP3 player to listen to music at night! I've always been dead keen on taking an hour before bed to sit in the dark, stick my headphone doinkies in my ears and just get washed away by the music! It's glorious!!

Sadly a small run in with me vs The Machine ended up with my darling pink MP3 player melting like so much artificial blush-coloured cheese! Really it was quiet fascinating in a gruesome way, I still have it on my desk and look at it now and then. Sometimes I suspect I'm sort of hoping it wasn't as bad as all that.
It was.

But no music before bedtime makes me incredibly figity! I play with my hair, my buttons, my cushion and the wall. And that's just the first 10 minutes. I never fully realized what a twitchy person I am!

But having music at night is heavenly! I fill the player up with music and then just flick through trying to find something to suit my mood! Rammstein, Parlotones, Snow Patrol, various anime music who's names I can't pronounce, Deep Blue Something and something or other! Skim, skim, skim till the perfect song hits me smack on the eardrum! I always wake up in such a peppier mood afterwards!

Ever tried doing this?

Tuesday 29 March 2011 - good to know

I was just realizing that hookers and drug dealers are above me in socio-economical standings. They still have a job and are able to "cut a cheque", so to speak.
Bugger, poor self esteem isn't too keen on this bit of information.

Still I like to think that no matter how bad your work day has been, you can always take a wee peek this side and go, "Ye gods! I could have it worse!" So see? I do have some social value after all!
:P

Monday 28 March 2011 - booked

Oh dear! Don't you find it so disheartening when you get a book (or video or such), for which you have high expectations, or at least hope to get a warm, fuzzy feeling from, and it ends up utterly disappointing you? Leaves a very small little blot of, "boo!" on your soul that tends to stick around until the next actually fabulous book gently wipes it off.

Oh and doesn't anyone find it interesting how we read books or watch movies about people who pretty much live their lives and don't read books or watch movies?
Isn't it funny? (And doesn't that sound better then the slightly more true, "isn't that sad?")

If you wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?

Sunday 27 March 2011 - simply gorgeous

Aaah it was such a nippy cold day today, not freezing but definitely cold-hand-of-wind-on-your-delicates sort of brrrr! And now I've just had a beautiful warm bath (it's a hair wash night so no bubble bath but I'll remedy that tomorrow - balance will be restored) and the chance of chestnuts is in the air! How lovely!!

I was just thinking, money is a good thing, there's no denying it, being all, "it can't buy you happiness" is just a bit too rose-tinted glasses for my liking.

BUT!

But I doubt even money can buy anything more lovely then the feeling of a hot bath! Or warm, tasty treats that burns your mouth going down! Rich or poor we both enjoy it just the same!

Simple pleasures, they're a very world-bonding sort of thing aren't they?

Saturday 26 March 2011 - offing yerself

Now I'm not being morbid here, but my bestest chum and I were having a natter on this subject yesterday and I thought I'd voice my views.

Namely on whether or not suicidal folk are cowards. (And I mean the genuinely death inclined sort not the over dramatic schoolgirl who saws through a wrist with a blunt spoon!)

See now the whole running away from a problem, that me thinks, is feather and beak with a cool yellow streak down the back material and there I won't argue the point. You do have to wonder if there isn't perhaps some way, any way to fix the problem they're facing. But we do all know that something can push people past their endurance and that's when the whole thing starts to look ice-cream cake appealing!

For arguments sake though lets say there isn't any hope left and poor Roofus wants to leap off the roof to certain doom. Poor guy.

Here's the part I think takes courage because of two things:-

1. The dude is taking his life! And there's usually rather a lot of pain involved. Not to mention the chance of paralysis, mutilation or having to wear a poop bag for the rest of your days. He's weighted all that up and he's still going to do it! Smart, er maybe not, but cowardly, hell no!

2. The dude doesn't know what happens after you die! It's a big thing when you stare death in the face and accept it's business card. There's so much talk and speculation, do you go to heaven? Hell? Purgatory? Do you utterly cease to exist? Do you get reborn? Do you end up in another universe? Do you end up reliving your life over and over (which would be kinda funny for both the suicidally inclined and the not so). But the fact remains that we don't know, and this here little bugger is going to go into that unknown anyway! Definitely brave, but again not so sure on the whole 'most intelligent choice of the century' bit.

What's your view?
