Yes okay I don't like maths.
Never have, it's over intricate, denies creativity and always gives you the one answer you didn't want, namely the wrong one!
In IQ tests I just skip the maths section. I have enough brains to make it up in the other areas and I worry that if I ever did the maths part and they thought I was a genius, it could happen, then they'd expect me to do even more!!!
Besides I could never see the pattern when they asked, "1, 23,45,67,89 what is the next number?" I don't know, I don't care! You were doing the pattern you should know it, why do I have to tell you?
As a kid I didn't have to much issues with it. Add, subtract and multiply, it was all good. Then came the horrors of long division! Oh my word, what the hell? Suddenly I began to see calculators in a whole new light! I was able to bluff my way through a lot of division, until they added fractions and decimal points, that was when the good ship JJ Jovvi was blown clear out the water once and for all, KERBOOM!!!
See Algebra, well that wasn't too bad. They tell you to find x and y and you're like, what can I just circle the x and write, "Here it is" and hope for a pass mark? but see they give you 80 different formulas and somehow you're supposed to know which goes with which and when to use what were! I can't even say that sentence 10 times fast! *glare*
And Trigonometry?! What the hell? I don't care Cos of Tan or CoTan-gerine or whatever! Good lordy, if ever there was one branch of mathematical redundancy I didn't need this was it with a hat on!
I used to just cancel everything out and guess the answer to be 1 or 0, which it almost always was. (I still only ended up with marks like 1/10 because apparently random, lucky guess work is not considered a vaild way to do it. Ha! They obviously have never been to a real science lab before...)
Geometry and I got on well for a long time. Trying to find angles and memorizing theories and what not was right up my dark, dark alley! Problem is they can never leave well enough alone! Noooo, then they had to bring in fractions again (What is it with fractions? Why are they so popular that they get all the party invites?!), and then they brought finding the Area into it and some physics just to sour the whole cream pie! I was most disillusioned!!
Really by the time I was in Std 8 (10th grade), I was well and truly sick of it and ended up doing math on Standard grade rather then Higher grade. (I'll admit this wasn't a very bright move but whenever the teacher said, "Standard Grade doesn't have to learn this part" I did feel a warm and snuggly glow in the pit of my racing heart!)
I know women can do math every bit as much as men can, yadda yadda, rah-rah go feminism etc. Just as long as it's other woman who do it, then I'm all good with that!
Ok so I'm not sure what the point of my rant here about the horrors of Math is? Probably just because it felt nice to diss it. Math is useful, (except Trig) it pops up everywhere and helps you know the velocity at which two trains leaving different stations are going. But for now I will rely on my calculator for the more intricate doodly bits!
No kid, you can't use my calculator, go back to school, what are we paying your fees for?!
