Evolution is not a religion. It doesn't tell you how, why or when life formed on earth (probably a Saturday), it doesn't give you a nifty bigoted god to worship or even a single public holiday where you have to fast or devolve into an aardvark for traditions sake.
Evolution is simply showing how critter A got here today from being Critter 'not-so-much-A' so long ago.
But I'm not here to cheer or the wonders of evolution, though they do seem pretty cool, regardless of how it sounds. What gets me is that you can still see evolution today! Sped up by the hands of mankind sure, but we have our fingers in so many pies, what's one more?
Think about it. Those tiny wee dogs that stars like to maul, sorry haul, about in big ugly purses and give embarrassing names, they didn't exist 50 years ago! But through selective breeding and tinkering man managed to evolve a whole new species out of the original dogs. (Who were themselves evolved from wolves - just in case anyone had images of a magnificent pack of Maltese Poodles running wild across the tundra pulling down elk).
Hairless cats, fainting goats, even the banana species we have today. All these things are newly engineered by man. Heck even the bulldog was a much more strapping lively creature just 100 years before it got bred into the living pudding it is today! And with genetically modified foods and chickens fed on other chickens and hormones, who knows what else we'll create in the future? Heck, look at our own evolution with technology by our sides? I'm still betting on the brain in a pickling vat ending to our spiecies!
Playing god is fun!!
