I like people, more so then animals I think.
This causes a small but interesting stir amongst some of the folk I know. It seems admitting so is another way of showing you're not one of the eco-sensitive, cool kids. (The definition of 'cool' being somewhat loose here.)
I do love animals, my hamster being a much adored part of my life! (Which I'm reminded of at 2am when he starts scuffling about and chewing on his water bottle and could he just quit BANGING for two minutes?!), but I remember also that he is a hamster! Not my compadre or soul brother! (His High-Five so needs work!)
But I didn't take this stance to annoy bunny-huggers, I too love a good cuddle with a willing bunny any day of the week (that just sounds wrong somehow...), but I always think that, unless you help people improve themselves and their situation, you're not hardly going to get them to treat animals better. No amount of smacking an animal abuser over the nose, with the rolled up newspaper of justice, is going to get them to change their ways until they change themselves first.
Besides, I'm a people too! And have a small but loyal stance to my own kind. I know of many "interesting people" out there who believe the world would be a better place if all mankind contracted a virulent, embarrassingly itchy, disease that killed us all off. If you could wait till I've lived out my lifespan, well gosh, that would be peachy.
(And have you found how many of these guys change their mind when their first child is born? Though I hear the temptation resurfaces around about the time their kids hit the teen years.)
Granted, humans are destructive little buggers, we all kinda know that, but that doesn't mean we should push each other aside or somehow see ourselves as better then them when really, you use petrol like everyone else, eco-terrorist!
Animals are gorgeous. People are gorgeous too. What rule is there that says we can't love both?
